Personal Development: After School Fitness & Academic Program

Program
Overview
The after
school physical fitness, nutrition, and academic support program will develop
physically educated students who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to
enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity while maintaining the high
academic standards of being a high school student.
The program
will consist of approximately 50-60 students, grades 9-12, who will divide
their time between fitness and nutrition work and academic support sessions for
2 hours per day, 4 days per week.

health risk factors

Identify
and measure health0related components of physical fitness

Explain
the purpose of goal setting

Identify
the steps to follow when setting short and long term goals

Explain
how circulatory and respiratory systems are related to cardiovascular fitness

Identify
a variety of activities which promote muscular strength and muscular endurance
·
Describe
nutritional guidelines and their relationship to physical activity
·
Understand
how proper study skills and time management contribute to overall academic
outcomes
Information
about the activities
All
activities will be monitored and recorded by certified teachers. The initial phase of the fitness program will
consist of a “testing” week so that the instructors can design student-specific
fitness regiments for the participants.
Thereafter, all students will begin to design and follow their specific
nutrition and fitness plan.
All academic
support will be conducted in the classroom.
Students will be expected to bring all necessary books, workbooks, etc
to the session. Some additional
resources will be provided as needed.
Also, computers will be provided for those students who need to complete
work or projects that require technology components.
